A company that manufactures electric railway couplings will open its North American headquarters in Pickens County as part of a $3.6 million investment that will create dozens of new jobs, Gov. Nikki Haley’s office announced Wednesday.

Era-Contact USA’s North American headquarters will be located in a 38,000-square foot building in the Pickens County Commerce Park that can be expanded to a 90,000 square-foot facility. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2017.

Era-Contact’s Pickens County investment will create 45 new jobs. Hiring will begin in 2017.

The governor’s office said the German based company is the worldwide technology leader for automatic electrical couplings and hand plugs in the rail sector. Era-contact is the only company to also provide Ethernet connections between train cars.
