Clemson Festival of Arts

MANY WAYS TO DABBLE IN THE ARTS AT ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF ARTS IN DONWTOWN CLEMSON

For 2013 - Clemson, SC—The ARTS Center in Clemson has rescheduled their 3rd annual Clemson Festival of Arts in Downtown Clemson’s Catherine Smith and Jaycee Parks for Saturday, June 22nd from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free, and there will be activities and attractions for all ages. There will be over 20 local and regional artists displaying and selling their work, and some will also be holding demonstrations of their craft. Festival goers are also invited to participate in community art projects including creating a piece for the Puzzle Project (http://www.timkellyartist.com/tk_puzzle_about.html) or painting a part of Arty the Giant Caterpillar. Local artist Ellen Kochansky will also be leading a sculpture activity involving the use of recycled items; small tiles will form a base for the sculptures, and participants will use wire, yarn, and string to attach interesting coils, shells, and shards that reflect the beauty and mystery of what she calls "cultural compost." Feel free to bring some materials for this activity if you wish, or use what will be provided. Other activities include a sidewalk chalk art contest, toy boat building, and making paper flowers for a special "flash art" surprise during the afternoon. Those who wish to participate in the sidewalk chart art contest may pre-register to guarantee a space and materials (see www.explorearts.org for details) or register day-of. Judging for the contest will take place at 3pm. Jaycee Park will be home to several activities for kids, including splatter painting, giant blocks, a bubble station, weaving tepees, and a stage with costumes and props for impromptu skits. There is also a playground in the park for children to enjoy. In addition to all of the art to enjoy and participate in, there will be live, local music throughout the day as well as local food vendors selling fresh eats. Should weather pose a problem, the festival will be moved to the ARTS Center, 212 Butler Street in Clemson. Bring the whole family to come dabble in the arts!
